Though the story focuses on female sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko, the movie both begins and ends with US first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, whom Pavlichenko had developed a deep bond with. “ The Battle for Sevastopol” premiered at the Beijing International Film Festival in 2015 and also screened at Cannes. Ultimately, it’s a coming-of-age story, a star-crossed romance, a gal-mance and war film all in one. Set in pre-and-post-war Russia, “The Battle for Sevastopol” tells the story of the friendship between Pavlichenko and Roosevelt, the romance and sometimes strain between Pavlichenko and the two loves of her life and possibly the strongest bond of all - the relationship Pavlichenko had with her rifle. During this time, she even developed a friendship first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt. She took down over 300 Nazi soldiers thanks to her impressive marksmanship and love of shooting. In 1941, Lyudmila Pavlichenko became one of the most celebrated female snipers in World War II.
